Misael Santos

Misael Santos is an actor and classical singer with three decades of artistic experience, having appeared in 16 stage productions throughout his career. His work spans opera, musical theatre, and classical music, with performances in Brazil and abroad.

In 2012, he appeared as a soloist at the Mundus Cantat Sopot International Choir Festival in Poland, with performances in Warsaw, Gdynia, Gdańsk, and Sopot. In 2013, he won the Maria Callas Competition. He also took part in two productions of The Phantom of the Opera, in 2005 and 2018.

In Italy, he participated in four opera productions, performing both as a chorister and as a soloist. His performances received recognition from Italian critics, including a review by Sergio Sciacca published in Sicily in April 2006, which praised his stage expressiveness, interpretative versatility, and vocal quality.

What genres of music do you listen to?

When it comes to Baroque music, I love the work of Les Arts Florissants. I also love the sound of the Metropolitan Opera Chorus in New York and the State Moscow Chamber Choir.

Before becoming a musician, did you ever consider a different career?

I trained as an actor, and initially that was my sole focus. When opera entered my life, I realized that I could be both an actor and a singer. One does not exclude the other.

Who is your favorite Brazilian composer?

Heitor Villa-Lobos.

How do you prepare for a concert? Do you have any particular rituals?

I have a list of 18 things that I've tried and tested over my 30-year career. It's a mixture of advice from singers who were more experienced than I was when I was eighteen. Some of the tips are rather unusual, but they have helped me enormously and still work for me today. They range from adjustments to my diet, sleep, and speaking habits to keeping an emergency kit of medications on hand! (laughs)
