Cleiton Xavier

Cleiton Xavier is a conductor, founder and artistic director of ANAMA Ensemble, and conductor of the Sicilian Chamber Orchestra. He also serves as Assistant Artistic Director of the Espírito Santo Classical Music Festival.

At the helm of ANAMA, he develops an artistic approach that explores performance and listening through Latin American epistemologies, fostering a dialogue between musical interpretation and other artistic disciplines.

A graduate in Piano Performance from Faculdade Mozarteum de São Paulo, he devoted more than a decade to the study of classical singing and operatic interpretation under the guidance of Romanian mezzo-soprano Mariana Cioromila. He studied orchestral conducting with Roberto Tibiriçá and Ligia Amadio. His training also includes years of study in classical ballet and contemporary dance.

He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Music at the University of São Paulo (USP), where his research focuses on sound symbolism and phonetic materiality in vocal performance.

At the Curitiba International Choir Competition (Cantoritiba), he won three first prizes and the distinction of Best Choir of the Competition. He also received the Ernst Mahle Trophy, awarded by the Piracicaba City Council, the 2015 Artist of the Year title, and two Motions of Applause from the Suzano City Council.

As a teacher and lecturer, he has conducted activities at institutions and cultural venues including the University of São Paulo, the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, the Theatro da Paz in Belém, and the Theatro Carlos Gomes in Vitória, among others.
